Dear Friends, Colleagues and those new to ISPAD,
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to the 38th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes to be held in Istanbul, Turkey. Founded in 1974 as the International Study Group for Diabetes, the Society has grown since that time in membership, science and inclusion. We now serve as the international source for physicians, psychologists, nurses, dieticians and other health care professionals in the areas of science, advocacy and education relating to all forms of diabetes in children. ISPAD has published the International Practice Guidelines for Diabetes Treatment in Children and Adolescents (2009) that are available in print in Pediatric Diabetes and on our website, as well as the 2011 IDF-ISPAD guidelines applicable for all areas of the world. ISPAD organizes postgraduate courses in childhood diabetes for physicians and health professionals who are providing diabetes care to children and adolescents throughout the world.
Our Annual Scientific Meeting attract scientists and clinicians - physicians, PhDs and health care professionals from across the globe to present their research, listen to presentations on cutting edge new therapies and attend symposia that review both new and controversial approaches to diabetes treatment. Each year the meeting highlights an aspect of diabetes in children and adolescents and this year in Istanbul we will highlight Global Challenges for Integrated Pediatric Diabetes Care.
Our co-conveners and the members of our international scientific committee, have organized an exciting meeting. I am convinced that this yearŐs meeting will continue the progression of scientific excellence building on the foundation of our previous Annual Scientific Meetings. There will be ample time for science and for networking with your colleagues and the opportunity to meet others who share your interest in specific areas of diabetes research or care in order to exchange ideas or to develop new collaborative projects.
On behalf of our Board of Trustees and officers I invite you to join us and your friends and colleagues for the 2012 ISPAD Scientific Meeting in Istanbul, Turkey.
Looking forward to having you join us for an exciting meeting,
Lynda K. Fisher, MD
